At Wheatley Pharmacy in Oxford, we offer the Meningitis B vaccine (Bexsero & Trumenba) to help protect against meningococcal group B bacteria, which can lead to severe infections. This autumn, some patients may qualify for a free NHS vaccine, while our private clinic remains open to everyone else from 6 months of age.
What is Meningitis B and How Can It Be Prevented?
Meningitis B (MenB) is a bacterial infection caused by the meningococcal group B bacteria. This bacteria can also cause other serious illnesses, such as sepsis. The infection causes inflammation of the protective membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord.
Early symptoms can progress rapidly, and include fever, headache and a stiff neck.
Vaccination is the most effective way to prevent Meningitis B. Following a rise in cases in 2026, the NHS has launched a time-limited catch-up programme for certain young people — but everyone else can still be protected privately.
What is the Meningitis B Vaccine?
The MenB vaccine helps protect against serious bacterial infections caused by meningococcal group B bacteria, which can lead to meningitis and sepsis. At Wheatley Pharmacy, we offer access to Bexsero® and Trumenba®, subject to age, clinical suitability and stock availability.
Bexsero® is given as two doses; Trumenba® is available as a two or three-dose course for those aged 10 and over. The most suitable vaccine and schedule will be confirmed at your consultation.
